My Holy Cross hero is Fr. John Blazek, CSC from Gilmour Academy. While I was a student his insightfulness towards the faith helped form me into who I am today. I have always been Catholic and because of Fr. John, who lives out all the charisms of Holy Cross, he inspired me to become a eucharistic minister and in 2015 he commissioned me as a high school junior and I have been one ever since, expanding to be a lector, gift bearer, hospitality minister, and a member of my parish council.

Thank you, Fr. John for shaping me into the proud, devout Catholic man I am today.

Br. Donald Stabrowski was a engaging and learned professor of government at Holy Cross Junior College.  Always willing to engage with a student, and to guide everyone in the best practices in politics.  He was also a great friend to my Mother (who worked in the library).  Mom and I had the great pleasure of reuniting with Br. Donald when he was out in Portland (and so was I).

Fr. Tim Mouton - I've had the privilege of knowing Father Tim my whole life. He has taught me how to lead by example, to honor the journey of others, and how to put your head down and do the work. Thank you for your service, leadership and unending love!

There are four CSC women who walked with me in my first parish job out of college. They worked at St. Paul’s in Seattle and we’re so kind. Sr. Karla M, Sr. Maria Gloria V. Sr. Ann Therese S. and Sr. Agatha Ann.

Their hospitality, invitations to dinner, advice when I asked and when I needed it, and stories of ministry. The have a great place with my heart.

Fr. Jim Gallagher brought such a grounding presence and sense of community to my college campus. He was the reason I became so involved in ministry throughout my time as a college student and always provided a sense of clarity and peace when I needed guidance. I am so grateful for all he did for the students he served and all the work he continues to do today!

Fr. Paul Doyle, CSC - My first interaction with Fr. Doyle CSC came in a phone call in 1983 when I was applying for a position as a youth minister. We spoke about work and people we knew and in 75 minutes, he never spoke a negative word about anyone. When I hung up, that reality caught me and it started a lifelong friendship and he has been a major part of my family ever since.

He is one of the friendliest people I have ever met and my relationship with the Holy Cross has been through his friendship and spirituality.

Father Tom Hosinski, CSC (aka Uncle Tommy)

Uncle Tommy taught me how to drive in the snow, how to garden, and how to find the presence of God everywhere. He lived a life full of quiet joy and gratitude and even in his illness and death, he pointed the way to God. I miss him every single day.

Uncle Tommy, pray for us!

Father Tom Hosinski, CSC - Father Tom had such deep faith and a gentle spirit. He found God in all of God's creations and had a special, sacred ability to help people see God in themselves, me included. I will forever be grateful for his gentle, loving, goofy, and somewhat curmudgeonly presence in my life. May he rest in peace.

Sr. Maureen Grady, CSC, is my Holy Cross hero. She created the Civil War cemetery tour that brings to life the stories of the CSC Sisters who served as nurses during the war, and she mentored me to continue sharing their legacy with new generations of students. Her innovative communication approach, TIS (Theme, Invitation, Simplicity), has shaped how the SMC nursing faculty teaches nursing students to practice person-centered therapeutic communication. Even after retirement, she always says "yes" when I ask her to come back to engage with the Senior Nursing Leadership students. She is a dear friend and someone I look up to.

Sister Helene Sharp, CSC is my Holy Cross hero because she lives her life in ministry and most importantly love. She is a natural leader and is a wonderful mentor. Hearing her stories of mission, service, and even just growing up fills my heart with joy more and more. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Pop-Up and trick-or-treating with her around Saint Mary’s student center. She is such a joy to be around! That day was full of smiles and memories that I will never forget. Unexpectedly, she was then paired with me as my mentor for the Ministry for Social Transformation program. Not only does Sister Helene give me advice on how to lead but she encourages me to do so as well. It is so wonderful having her support by my side. She inspires me so much.  Thank you Sister Helene Sharpe!

Father Robert (Bob) Epping
He is responsible for my conversion, catechism (RCIA), baptism, confirmation and the celebrant at My wife's and I wedding. He also aided with my wife through her miscarriages. Sorry I used so much water on the lawn in Manitou, but the grass was very green.

Sister Marian Teresa Gomes, CSC was the first Bangladeshi Sister in Holy Cross. Her deep spirituality, shared wisdom, encouraged diversity and international lives of the Congregation shows us a new adventure. Her accompaniment transformed many lives. Her prayerful life is much inspired to many of us.
Thank you. Bless us from heaven.

Brother John Flood CSC

Arrived in Uganda in the mid 70's during the Idi Amin reign and has been in East Africa ever since. This includes through two major Ugandan Wars (Uganda-Tanzania War (1978–1979) and Ugandan Bush War (1981–1986)).

One of the key individuals responsible for what Holy Cross Lakeview School (Jinja) is today.

Headmaster at St Leo's College and Holy Cross Lakeview School at critical times.

Responsible for the formation of many young men on their path to religious service.

A testimonial as to Brother John's impact comes from my brother Michael after visiting Brother John this fall: "The most memorable part of the trip was finding that Johnny cannot go anywhere without being recognized by someone. No matter where we were, even for a very short stop to use the bathroom at a gas station, or our last evening having dinner at a hotel, he was recognized by people from the many places he has lived and worked through the years."

Brother Raymond Papenfuss.  A very special child of God. For the great work he did at St. John’s School, Sekondi Ghana, bringing up so many of us and immensely helping us to discern God’s presence in everything he did. We love you, Brother Raymond.  Thank you for teaching us love, dedication, gratitude, and selflessly serving others to make our world a better place each day

Fr. Richard Conyers, C.S.C. played a major role in ensuring that NDCP remained open years ago when we faced challenges.  We are thriving today due in large part to Fr. Conyers' wisdom, faith, and loyalty to the Dons.
